Greekly Privacy Policy

Effective 7 September 2026. This policy covers Greekly: the iOS app, the Telegram bots @greekly_bot and @greek_a2_bot, and the mini app they open. It does not cover the rest of parasochka.com, which has its own policy.

Greekly is operated by Artem Parasochka, Limassol, Cyprus, who is the data controller for everything described here.

The short version

• Greekly has no advertising, no analytics or tracking SDK, and no third-party trackers of any kind. It does not track you across other apps or websites.
• Nothing about you is sold, rented, or shared for anyone else's marketing.
• It never receives your card details.
• On iOS it never receives your email address, and never asks for one.
• You can delete your account, and everything attached to it, from inside the app.

What Greekly stores about you

How your account is identified

This depends on where you use Greekly, and the two are separate accounts even for the same person.

• In the iOS app: a random identifier generated on your device the first time you open the app, kept in the device keychain. If you choose Sign in with Apple, Greekly also stores the stable user identifier Apple issues for this app — an opaque string, not an email address. Greekly does not receive your email address, including a private relay address, and does not ask for one. Optionally, a display name, if you let Apple share your name or type one in.
• In the Telegram bots: your Telegram user ID, and the username and first name Telegram supplies when you press Start. This is what Telegram gives every bot you talk to.

What you tell Greekly

The profile is optional and every field can be left empty or cleared later: display name, age, city, native language, other languages you speak, occupation, family status, hobbies, and what you want to use Greek for. These are used to make generated exercises about your life rather than about nobody's — if a field is empty, it is simply not used.

What you do in Greekly

Your answers and whether they were right, per-topic and per-word statistics, which exercises you have completed and when, your practice streak, and any exercise you left unfinished so you can resume it.

How exercises are generated

Quizzes, dialogues and writing exercises are generated by OpenAI's API. The request sent to OpenAI contains the topic being practised, the words you have recently got wrong, and — where you filled the profile in — your profile answers. It does not contain your name, your Telegram ID, your Apple identifier, or any payment information.

The text of these requests and OpenAI's replies is stored for 180 days so that a badly generated exercise can be diagnosed and fixed. After 180 days the text is deleted and only counters remain — how many tokens a request used — which is what the running costs are calculated from. Vocabulary and sentence-building exercises are not generated: they come from a fixed list written by hand, and nothing about them is sent anywhere.

The listen button sends the Greek phrase, and nothing else, to Google Cloud Text-to-Speech to be read aloud.

Your subscription

• Bought in the iOS app: Apple handles the payment. Greekly receives from Apple a transaction identifier, which product was bought, whether the subscription is active, and when the current period ends. It never receives your card details or your Apple Account email.
• Bought through the Telegram bot: Stripe handles the payment. Greekly stores the customer and subscription identifiers Stripe issues. Card details go directly to Stripe and never reach Greekly's servers.

Notifications

In the iOS app, if you allow notifications, Greekly stores the push token Apple issues for your device so reminders can be delivered. Practice reminders are on by default and can be turned off in Settings. Notifications that offer you a subscription are a separate switch, off unless you turn it on.

Problem reports

If you report a problem from inside the app, Greekly stores what you wrote along with the exercise you were looking at, so the problem can be reproduced.

Technical

When a new account is created, the IP address of the request is held in memory for up to an hour and used only to limit how many accounts one address can create. It is not written to the database and is not linked to your account. IP addresses also appear in ordinary server logs kept by the hosting provider.

Who else sees any of it

Greekly uses these services and no others. Each receives only what it needs to do its job, and none of them receives anything for their own marketing.

• OpenAI — generates exercises, and receives what is described above.
• Google Cloud Text-to-Speech — reads Greek phrases aloud, and receives only the phrase.
• Apple — delivers the app, processes App Store purchases, provides Sign in with Apple, and delivers push notifications.
• Telegram — delivers the bots and the mini app.
• Stripe — processes card payments made outside the App Store.
• Railway — hosts the servers and the database.

Nothing is sold or rented. Information is disclosed to anyone else only where the law requires it.

How long it is kept

• The text of AI requests and replies: 180 days, then deleted, leaving only usage counters.
• Accounts that never subscribed and stopped being used: the personal details are erased after 90 days of inactivity.
• Operational and audit records: up to 365 days.
• Everything else is kept while your account exists, and goes when you delete it.

Deleting your account

In the iOS app: Settings → Delete account. This permanently erases your profile, all your progress and statistics, your problem reports, and your push token. It cannot be undone.

One thing it does not do: it does not cancel an App Store subscription. Only you can cancel that, in Settings → your Apple Account → Subscriptions. The app says so before it deletes anything.

In the Telegram bots: Settings offers “Reset profile”, which erases your profile and all your progress. To have the account itself removed, email parasochkaartem@gmail.com or message @aparasochka — this is done by hand so that any Stripe subscription can be cancelled first rather than being left billing an account that no longer exists.

Your rights

Greekly is operated from Cyprus and the GDPR applies. You have the right to access your data, to have it corrected, to have it erased, to restrict or object to how it is used, and to receive a copy in a portable form. To exercise any of these, email parasochkaartem@gmail.com or message @aparasochka; you will get an answer within one month.

Your data is processed to provide the service you asked for (the contract), and, for the running of the service — keeping it working, diagnosing bad exercises, preventing abuse — on the basis of legitimate interests. Where consent is the basis, such as notifications, it is asked for separately and can be withdrawn at any time in Settings.

If you believe your data has been mishandled you may complain to your national data protection authority; in Cyprus that is the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection.

Children

Greekly is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect anything from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email parasochkaartem@gmail.com and it will be deleted.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top changes with it and the new version is published here. Continuing to use Greekly after that means the new version applies.
